BENGALURU, July 2025: In a major boost to Bengaluru’s public transportation network, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is preparing to inaugurate the Yellow Line in August 2025. This eagerly awaited stretch will initially see the launch of seven metro stations, aimed at easing congestion and improving last-mile connectivity, especially in the southern parts of the city.

Phase One Launch:BENGALURU’S ELECTRONICS CITY METRO: RV Road to Bommasandra

Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line: The Yellow Line’s first phase covers a crucial stretch from RV Road to Bommasandra, with the following seven stations set to go operational:

  • RV Road
  • Jayadeva Hospital
  • Central Silk Board
  • Kudlu Gate
  • Hosa Road
  • Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara
  • Bommasandra

This corridor will serve commuters in South Bengaluru, including the Electronic City tech hub, providing a faster and more reliable alternative to road transport.

Initial Train Frequency and Driverless Technology Rollout

According to BMRCL officials, trains on the Yellow Line will initially run every 20 minutes. This frequency is expected to improve as more train sets become available and ridership increases.

The Yellow Line is also notable for introducing driverless metro technology in Bengaluru for the first time. These advanced trains use a Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling system. However, full implementation depends on receiving an Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) certificate, followed by a final nod from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). BMRCL is optimistic that both approvals will be secured by the end of July.

Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line Project Delays and Long-Term Plans

Originally expected to launch earlier, the 19.15 km elevated Yellow Line has faced delays—primarily due to setbacks in the delivery of the driverless coaches. Currently, only three trains are available for initial service, but more are expected to arrive soon.

BMRCL aims to complete full operations across all 16 stations on the line by March 2026. There are also future plans to extend the Yellow Line beyond Bommasandra to Hosur in Tamil Nadu, which would further enhance cross-state connectivity.

Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line benefits for Commuters and the City

Once operational, the Yellow Line is expected to:

  • Reduce travel time for thousands of daily commuters
  • Alleviate road congestion in high-traffic zones
  • Support environmental goals by promoting public transport
  • Spur economic and real estate growth along the corridor

The upcoming launch marks a pivotal step in Namma Metro’s expansion and a leap forward for Bengaluru’s urban mobility vision.
